Pc John Morgan met the 89-year-old when he visited her home while working for the Met to give her advice about bogus builders. But over the course of the next three years he took her savings and sold her Pounds 200,000 home, a jury was told. Basildon Crown Court heard how Morgan and his wife Eunice bought a sheltered housing flat for spinster Joan Harping and then used Jaeger LeCoultre Replica Watch her money to pay off their credit card debts and bought jewellery, an Audi TT and a VW Golf. David Walbank, prosecuting, said: "It's plain that they treated her money as if it was theirs to use for their own personal benefit. "The first thing they did with the proceeds of the sale of Miss Harping's home was to pay off all their credit cards." The jury heard one of the items bought with Mr Morgan's credit card was a "gents stainless steel Rolex watch" for Pounds 2,350. The court heard that after Pc Morgan, 47, befriended Miss Harping, she had a stroke and went into hospital. He encouraged her to sell her home in Palmers Green, north London. Money for the home was eventually paid into a joint account for which Pc Morgan was a signatory. Pc Morgan, who transferred to work at Clacton police station in Essex, was also given power of attorney over the pensioner, which he used to set up other accounts in his own name, the court was told. The jury heard when Pc Morgan and his 50-yearold wife were arrested in May 2004, Miss Harping, who now lives in a care home, only had Pounds 6,000 left. Mr Walbank said: "All her assets, with exception of some BP shares, have been put into that joint account- her Louis Vuitton Fake post office savings, her Nationwide building society savings and the proceeds of the sale of her home." The couple from Frintonon-Sea, Essex, deny 15 charges of obtaining money transfers by deception. John Morgan has also pleaded not guilty to three charges of forgery and one count of using a false instrument. The trial continues.
